A celebration honoring the McFarland's 50th wedding anniversary was hosted by their children.

Michael was a manufacturing engineer retiring in 1992. Beverley served as a church secretary until retirement in 1998.

The couple have four sons, John of Parma, Andrew of Sandusky, Ohio; David lives in Texas and Michael of Marina Del Ray, California. They are also the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren.

On November 6, 1948 at the Smith Field Presbyterian Church, Lloyd and Virginia Crothers were united in marriage.

A celebration honoring the Crother's sixty years together was hosted by their sons and grandchildren. Friends and family from near and far joined in the celebration bringing memorabilia that spanned the last sixty years.

Lloyd and Virginia have lived in Smith Field, Ohio for most of their sixty years together.

The Crother's have four sons, Thomas of Adena, Michael of Tennessee, Gary from Illinois and Dean of Piney Fork. They are the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren and one great grandson.

Domenico Mannella and Yolanda Fronterotta were married November 14, 1948 in Italy.

The Mannella children honored their parents with a family dinner in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary at the Undo's Restaurant in Weirton, Ohio.

Domenico worked for the Jefferson Technical Institute before retirement. Yolanda is a retired cook from the former Ohio Valley Hospital.

The Mannella's have two daughter's Mary and Rita and are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Dick Meis and Lois Hoffman were married in Fort Morgan on November 18, 1958.

A celebration was given in honor of the Meis 50th wedding anniversary by their two sons. Family and friends from across the United States were in attendance, the guests were asked to bring photos and memorabilia involving the Meis last fifty years together.

Dick and Lois met while in four-H band when they were thirteen years old.

The couple moved to Nashville, Tennessee where Lois was a recording artist for United Artist Records. The couple were backup artists with many members of the Grand O'Opry.

The Meis moved back to Colorado in 1966 so that they could raise their two sons, Greg and Gary surrounded by family.

Dick and Lois still preform at local functions. Dick sells teaching material and gives listens for the steal guitar.

A celebration was held in honor of Wilbert and Sue Pullen's 50th anniversary at the home of their niece in Camden.

The Pullen's were married at the home of the bride's parents in Lugoff, where the couple still reside.

The couple has two children and one grandchild. The entire family will be taking a vacation to Myrtle Beach, to further celebrate Sue and Wilbert's 50th anniversary.

Wilbert worked for Winn Dixie from the time he was twelve and retired after for 42 years of services.

Sue is a homemaker and stay at home mom, also serving as a pianist for their church.

The Pullen's enjoy traveling and visiting with their children. They are also active in their church and community.

A dinner honoring of Jack and Melba Lybrand's 60th anniversary was given by their son, at the Hennessy Restaurant Nov.6th. Friends and family were in attendance.

The Lybrand's meet and dated for a year in 1947 while Jack was in the U.S. Air Force they were married Nov.6th 1948 in Aiken.

The couple lived across the U.S. and overseas while Jack was in the service for 20 years. Jack retired as a Master Sergeant in 1966.

Melba is a homemaker and was a stay at home mom raising their son Douglas.

After retiring from the service the couple opened an ice cream shop and Jack taught vocational subjects in area schools until 1988.

Jack and Melba settled in Columbia were they still reside.

A surprise dinner was given by their sons in honor of the McCurry's 50th wedding anniversary on October 25, 2008 at the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Gastonia.

The McCurry's have three sons, Terry, Tim and Todd they are also the loving grandparents of four grandchildren.

After thirty years of service Jim retired from the trucking industry. He is a lifetime member of the Oasis Temple, and is a Master Mason.

Rita is a housewife and was a stay-at-home mother. She is also a active member in their church.

George and Dana Burns were married September 27, 1958 in a chapel at St. Mary's Church.

To celebrate their parent's 50th wedding anniversary the Burn's children surprised them with a week's vacation at Lake Pend in Oreille, Idaho. Another surprising factor was that forty of the family members and friends were there for a week of camping, fishing, boating and playing golf.

At the end of the week a celebration dinner that included eighty friends and family members was given in Spokane, Washington. A member of the original wedding party Bill Gibson was in attendance.

The 70th wedding anniversary of Mabrey McNorton and his wife Mary Lou was celebrated in the dinning hall at the Grand Bay Convalescent Center. Seventy-five guests which included friends and family members from Georgia, Texas and Alabama gathered for the celebration.

The McNorton's grew up in Repton, Alabama. Mabrey 87 and Mary Lou 89 were married in Repton when he was 17 and she was 19. They have lived Mobile area since 1954.

The McNorton's were farmers until a drought destroyed their dreams of farming. Mabrey went to work for his brother's service station on old Shell Road.

Richard Johnson and Charlotte Le Blanc were married on October 12, 1958 in Wakefield, Mass. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary with a family dinner given by their son and his wife.

In 1959 Richard was in the United States Army stationed at White Sands Missile Range in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The couple moved to Las Cruces in 1963 and opened an auto-parts business.

The Johnson's owned the automotive business until 1984 after which Richard started to work with the Bogart's Auto and RV Service.

Charlotte was a secretary and bookkeeper for the family business for several years. She was also an accompanist at the New Mexico State University Production, Community Theater and the Voz Vas Queros for several years.

After retiring 1990 the couple became active members in several clubs in the Las Cruces area. Richard is active with amateur radio and restoring and showing vintage cars at Cruise Ins. Charlotte stays active in her many musical pursuits.

The Johnson's have one son Eric,(wife Margaret) and are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren, Brittany and Danny.

The Oklahoma fields were covered with a carpet of green sprinkled with flowers of every color in the summer of 1943,when Dellis Timmons ask Audra Lewis to be his wife.

On September 11th, 1943 Dellis and Audra were married in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.

In honor of their parent's 65th anniversary the Timmons daughters hosted a dinner given at the Cattle's Steak House in Historic Stockyards City. Carlin and Margene Ashby were married Sept. 15, 1948 in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake Utah.

A celebration held at the LC Ranch Lodge honoring the Ashby's 60th anniversary was hosted by their five children. Friends and family were invited; twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren were also in attendance.

Friends and family were invited to the Ashby's home for an open house on Sept. 16. The Guest were requested to bring any photos or mementos, which included the Ashby family over the past sixty years.

The Ashby's have lived in Uintah Basin for most of their married lives.

Bill and Anne Backewich of Lower Sackville, NS, celebrated their 60th anniversary with family and friends. Also attending were their seven daughters, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Guests were asked to bring photos, music and memorabilia from 1948.

The Backewich's were married at St. Mary's Basilica in Halifax on July 31, 1948. Anne said "when times got hard our love for each other would see us through."

After retirement the Backewich's find that they enjoy community and church activities. Family gatherings and grandchildrens sport activities fill Bill and Anne's spare time.

Frank and Anita were married August 1st in 1928. Friends and family gathered in celebration of the Milford's 80th anniversary. All the guest were asked to bring photos and any memorabilia covering the last 80 years.

The Milford's have two children, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Frank is a retired dockworker. Anita was a stay at home mom.

During World War II a bomb was dropped on the Milford's home. "It seems as though the hard times made our love for each other stronger", said Frank.

Anita said their secrets to a happy marriage are "a little kiss before bed, playing bingo and good plane English food".

A dinner in honor of Jack and Muriel Lawton was held at the Grove House Hotel celebrating their seventieth anniversary.

The Lawton's met and fell in love while attending Saint James School.

Jack and Muriel are both retired; Jack was a railway driver and Muriel from the Cadbury factory.

The Lawton's have two sons, John 69 and Jeff 63; they have three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Their son John has been married for forty-eight years: hopes to see his parents celebrate their platinum anniversary. Jeff stated "My mom and dad have had a happy life together". The couple didn't need fame or money to make them happy. Raising their sons and just having each other was enough for them.

Over the past 55 years Alf and Evelyn Cadwallader were given anniversary gifts that were a little out of the ordinary, but this years gifts topped them all.

Alf and Evelyn took to the skies in microlight aircraft's in celebration of their 55th anniversary.

When describing her adventure Evelyn said,"it was brilliant" and the most exciting thing she had ever experienced.

The best part of Alf's flight was watching the expression on Evelyn's face when she landed.

The Cadwallader's friends and family wanted their 55th anniversary to be one that they could tell stories about for the rest of their life's.

Evelyn and Alf are known for their fund raising abilities in their community.

In the past Evelyn has walked on fire and gone white water rafting all for the good of her favorite charities.

Evelyn 76, and Alf 78 have never been content to set back and watch the rest of the world go by.
They can hardly wait to see what their next anniversary brings.

The Edwards were married on a beautiful summers day July 21, 1939 in Ironton, Ohio.

A dinner was held by their children in celebration of the Edwards 69th anniversary.
Stories and photos of the past 69 years was the highlight of the evening.

Homer worked for the C&O railroad until retirement. He also held the office of local chairman for the conductors of C&O railroad.

Mrs. Edwards was a stay at home wife and mother to five children. She had the hardest job of all and did it well "Homer said."

With five children, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren there is never a dull moment. The Edwards enjoy their large family gatherings.

The Glovers will take a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in late July with their two sons and their families in celebration of their 50th anniversary also.

Tommy and Carolyn enjoy spending time with their three grandchildren and going on family outings.

Tommy retired from United Oil with 29 years of service, he now owns the Sleep Time Mattress Center.

Carolyn retired from the Hospital in Gaston, she now teaches nursing part time.

Carolyn and Tommy are active members in their community and church.

William Cope and Doris Stanley were united in marriage June 20,1958 at Christ's Lutheran Church.

A celebration was held by their son's June 21, 2008 in honor of the Cope's golden anniversary at The Family Life Center. Friends and family were invited to attend. Photos and memorabilia from the past were displayed.

Doris taught school for 45 years some of guest at the celebration were her students from the past. Their photos brought back many happy memories.

William severed in the Marines for 4 years. He retired from the Textile Repair Company and is now employed at the Gaston County Sheriffs Department.

William served as Scoutmaster for Troop 311 for 25 years several of his scouts from the past came to the celebration with memorabilia from Troop 311.

The Cope's have two son's and two grand children that they enjoy spending their spare time with.

Both William and Doris are very active in their church teaching and serving on the church council.

Leland and Mary Ellen Thompson were married in Stevensville Montana, July 8, 1940. The couple were natives of Butt where they had gone to school and College together.

After their wedding in 1940 the Thompson's moved to Washington D.C. where Leland worked for the U.S. War Department. While working for the U.S. government the couple has lived in several states including Hawaii, Germany and Japan.

Mary Ellen also worked for the U.S. government while they lived in Germany, Japan, and Hawaii. She was Secretary to the Deputy of Defense, and worked in the Pentagon.

Mary Ellen and Leland were awarded a medal for traveling over 42,000 miles with the Norwegian Cruise Lines. Over the years Leland And Mary Ellen have traveled to every continent with the exception of Antarctica.

Aside from their travels the Thompson's enjoy gulf, bowling, and square dancing.

The Thompson's have enjoyed every minute of their 68 years together.

Joe and Geraldine have four children, thirteen grandchildren, and four great grand-children.

Ronald has retired from Prince Hydraulic and farming he stays active in the community as well as in the church St. Michael's.

Darlene was a stay at home mom staying active on the farm while raising their five children. After the children were grown Darlene became an Avon representative and is also active in their church.

John Westra and Carol Klinwolterink were married in the beautiful Iowa farm country June 20, 1958.

While other young couples chose the more exciting life of the fifties, and sixties John and Carol chose the farm life and have never regretted their choice.

The Westra's raised their three sons on the farm where they are still involved in farming. John enjoys participating in tractor parades, farming and staying active with the Historical Society in Ireton.

Carol retired from teaching and plays an active part in Justice for All, the Historical Society, church, and the Red Hats.

John and Carol admit they enjoy traveling with their 6 grandchildren more then anything.

Bill and Joyce were married in Beautiful South Carolina June 29, 1958. The mountains looked like a beautiful patchwork quilt with flowers in every color. With the ocean rushing into the shore the Elrod's thought there was no more romantic spot on earth to have their wedding.

Bill worked for Rex Mills for 46 years before retiring. Joyce retired from Rex Mills with 32 years of service.

The couple laughingly remarked that they find they are so busy after retirement they don't see how they made time for work before.

Bill and Joyce stay active in their church were they have been members for 30 years.

The Elrods enjoy family dinners and time spent with their 9 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Japan's Crown Princess Masako and the Crown Prince Naruhito celebrated their 15th anniversary with a dinner that included the royal family and a few guest Emperor Akihito and Empress Mickiko, Prince Akishino and his wife Princess Kiko.

The Princess is a beautiful and intelligent lady; she is a graduate of Harvard and a former diplomat.

It is difficult for such an intelligent person to sit quietly beside her husband without having a voice; Masako did not think her life would be so difficult.

When the Prince proposed to Masako he promised to protect her from the stress of a royal life. When talking to reporters the Prince stated that he could not believe that 15 years have passed already.

The Royal couple were married June9, 1993 they have one daughter.
