Love In Seattle

Seattle in the spring of 1943 was filled with flowers of every color and young people in love this included Wesley and Rosalene Ratzlaff.

The Ratzlaff's were married May28th, 1943 in Seattle. There were thousands of young people getting married in Seattle before there loved ones were shipped out over seas.

Wesley and Rosalene were one of the lucky couples that made it through the war to make a life together that has lasted for 65 years.

Since they were married the couple lived in several states finally settling in South Hutchinson Kansas.

Wesley retired from Cargill Flour Milling Co., Rosalene retired from Newton Presbyterian Manor.

Hosting a 65th anniversary celebration were their children Mike, and Becky. The couple also has three grandchildren.

The Ratzlaff's are active in their community, and church they also enjoy many family activities.

December 7th, 1941

December 7th, 1941 the night that Erwin and Arlene Relth met in a Chicago Illinois church is a night the world will remember for eternity. This was the night that Pearl Harbor was attacked. The Relth's dated for 2 years while Erwin was serving in the Air Force, they were married on May 8th, 1943.

After the war Erwin and Arlene moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The family moved to Arizona in 1954, where Erwin started a printing business that he operated until retirement. Arlene was a full time wife and mother to their two children.

Erwin and Arlene are active their church he enjoys woodworking projects, while she enjoys playing her music.

A celebration for the Relth's 65th anniversary was held by friends and family at their church on May 8th.

You Take My Breath Away

Warren and Ruth Roberts were high school sweethearts when he ask her if she would marry him. He thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world, but on their wedding day as she walked down the aisle toward him he said, "She took my breath away." They were married on May 16th, 1948 in Cumberland Iowa

The Robert's family lived in Boulder Colorado for 42 years where Warren ran his furniture business, and was the furniture maker for the University of Colorado. After raising their children, Ruth was a teacher for 21 years.

The Robert's moved to Phoenix Arizona upon their retirement they are active in their church, as well as DAR, and Dust Angels. They have become globe trotters traveling the U.S., and foreign countries.

Warren and Ruth are the parents of three sons, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Nebraska Sunshine

Just as the earth was awakening from a long winters nap and all the spring flowers were in bloom Mel Warneke took Ardith Bostemann to be his bride. The Lutheran Church in Norfolk was the site of the Warneke wedding on May 23rd, 1948.

A 60th anniversary celebration will be given in honor of Mel and Ardith by friends and family on May 23rd. The Warnekes will also enjoy another celebration to be held later in the summer for their children that were unable to attend the first one.

Mel and Ardith's, children are Debra and John Matasovsky of Truman, Minn., Dorla and Mike Ray of Fremont, Diane and Kern Newton of Hubbard and Dean and Theresa Warneke of Omaha. They have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Warnekes now reside in Pierce NE.

Come Dance With Us

A reception followed by a dance will be held on June 17th to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Ray and Bernice Baucom. Family and friends are invited to come and share in the celebration that will be held at Villisca Community Building in Villisca.

Pictures or any memorabilia of the Baucom's past brought to the celebration would be greatly appreciated.

Ray and Bernice have a full life that includes family gatherings, sporting events with grandchildren and socializing with friends. The Baucoms have 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren.

The Perfect Day

June Petzoldt is as lovely today as she was 65 years ago on the beautiful spring day when Alfred took her to be his bride. The smile on his face as he looks at her simply lights up the room.

Alfred and June Petzoldt will be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary and June's 90th birthday with an open house Saturday, May 24, at First United Methodist Church, in Grand Island.

The Petzoldt's thought that the month of June was the perfect choice for the their wedding, with June's birthday being on June 23, and the wedding June 10th. One would have to think the date has proven to be just as they thought perfect, the marriage has lasted for 65 years.

Their family includes Bruce and Candy Petzoldt of Lapayne, Ariz., and six grandchildren.

Promise of Love

The sun was streaming through the clouds awakening the spring flowers on May 2nd, 1948 when John and Dorothy Corder were united as husband and wife.

There have been a lot of changes in the world over the past 60 years, but the promise to love each other for life has never wavered for the Corder's.

The Corder Children and grandchildren hosted an open house for John and Dorothy in celebration of their 60th anniversary Sunday, May 4th at the Heritage Senior Center in McCook.

The Corder's son Jim from Alameda California came home for the celebration. John and Dorothy also have a daughter (Diana) Mrs. Charles Gull of McCook, two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Serving Their Country Together

Alfred meet Lillian while on leave in England from the Army in 1937, from the first time he saw Lillian he told his friends that she would one day be his wife. The couple married in 1938 Alfred was shipped off to India soon after. Lillian followed him in 1939 where she enlisted in the Indian Army.

After six years in India the Brewster's went back to England in 1944. Alfred served in the bomb disposal unit where he was seriously injured. After 21 years of service Alfred retired from the British Army.

The Brewster's have lived in Hamilton since 1979. They now live at Hamilton's Brylyn Rest home where pictures that tell their life story adorn the walls.

Alfred and Lillian enjoy telling their life stories to friends and family when they come to visit.

The Brewster's believe that the secret of their 70 years together was based on "Having a good argument once in a while, but you never hit one another."

Alfred and Lillian have 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.

Rainy Day Feeling

Jack and Marry Epps celebrated their 70th anniversary on May 4th in Hamilton with a family dinner.

Marry remembers their wedding day vividly " I got wet because it was freezing cold and raining." The rain did not change the fact that Mary's wedding day was the happiest day of her life.

"Mary's family bought a farm next door to my families farm and we became close friends," said Jack. On Friday nights the couple would go into Paeroa to the picture show on Jack's bike with Marry sitting on the handlebars.

Jack said, "We agree on most everything and it helps that I am so good looking." It is easy to see that Jack's sense of humor has been a great asset in their marriage.

Jack and Mary enjoy gardening, and going to sporting events such as rugby games with their family. The Epps have three children, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. They believe that having a large family helps to keep them young at hart.

"Our family is like a tight-net community," said Jack.

Beautiful Vancouver Island Wedding

Wilf and Betty Lee chose to marry in the spring when the mountains and ocean are wakening with new life on Vancouver Island. It was on May 15, 1948 when Wilf took Betty for his wife during a ceremony in Campbell River.

Wilf worked in the fishing industry, and as a mill-worker. Betty was a stay at home mom raising their four children.

A dinner given by the Lee children to celebrate their parents 60th anniversary will include friends and family.

After retirement the Lee's have enjoyed exploring the island with their children, 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Love Blossoms In Spring

Spring flowers were kissing the earth with their multitude of colors on May 11,1933 when Charles Skageenberg took Gertrude to be his wife in Hollidaysburg Pa..

Charles and Gertrude celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary with friends and family at Azalea Park at Grasslands. The Skageenbergs moved to Lakeland in 2004.

The children are Janet Wilkins of Wilmington, N.C.; Carol Warner of Springfield, Mo.; and Susan Schultz of Lakeland. A daughter, Marilyn Larson, is deceased. They have 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Skagenberg retired in 1973 from Chase Brass and Copper Co., Euclid, Ohio while Gertrude was a homemaker and mother raising their children.

December Wonderland

On a beautiful winters day with the snow turning the landscape into a wonderland the Rural Cropsey home of Beryl Thomas and her parents was the site of the Milford Irwin and Beryl Thomas wedding ceremony on Dec.25th, 1937.

A reception was held by friends at the Chatsworth United Methodist Church in celebration Milford and Beryl's 70th wedding anniversary. The Irwin children have planned a private family dinner in the near future.

Milford and Beryl are the proud parents of six children, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. With a family this large and new memories are being made each day and family photo album is quickly being filled.

Milford retired in 1975 from farming, Beryl retired from U.S. Postal work in 1978.

Ending of The Old Beginning of New

Holidays were in full swing on Dec. 28th, 1947 the ending of one year and the beginning of the new year and new life for Lowell and Wilma Litwiller. The Litwiller wedding ceremony was held at Methodist Church in Gridley.

A dinner given for family and friends to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Lowell, and Wilma was hosted by the Litwiller children.

The Litwillers have lived in the Gridley community throughout their sixty years together.

Lowell is retired from the Eureka Co. Wilma has retired from the Gridley School system.

Spending their free time with friends and family keeps the Litwillers active. Their grandchildren, and great grandchildren give them many wonderful stories to share with everyone.

Mennonite 65th Anniversary

Friends and family gathered at a dinner to celebrate the 65th anniversary of John M. and Miriam Thomas. John and Miriam were married in Mount Joy PA. on March 4th, 1943.

John was the pastor for the Stillpond Mennonite Church in Maryland, and Faith Bible Chapel in PA.

Miriam is a homemaker and was a stay at home mom caring for their seven children. Quilting and gardening still bring pleasure to her life. Friends and family enjoy the fruits of these hobbies.

The Thomas children recall a home filled with love for God, and family that saw their parents through the 65 years.

Seventeen grandchildren, and thirty-one great grandchildren have filled John and Miriam's life with many happy memories.

Al and Tipper Gore Celeabrate 38th. Anniversary

Al And Tipper Gore will celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary on May 19th. The Gores were married May 19th 1970 in Washington's National Cathedral. The organist played "All You Need is Love" while the headmaster of the St. Alban's School preformed the ceremony.

From the time Al Gore meet Tipper he knew that this was the girl for him. Tipper said, "from the moment we saw each other at Al's graduation dance it was as if everyone melted away." Al called me the next day for a date we never dated anyone else.

Tipper was a junior at Boston University when Al ask her to take a walk one afternoon, while they were walking along the Charles River he proposed to Tipper.

Al and Tipper have four children, Karenna, Kristin, Sarah and Albert. They also have two grandchildren.

The Gores live on a small farm outside Carthage, Tennessee.

The Best Is Yet To Be

Family, and friends gathered March 26th to celebrate the 68th wedding anniversary of Rev. Ernest Morrison Sr., and his wife Mildred. The Morrison's were married in 1940 during a candlelight service in Portsmouth Virginia.

After retirement from the Navy in 1953, the Morrison's moved to Oxnard. Mildred worked as a crossing guard supervisor for thirty-three years. Rev. Morrison worked for the U.S. Post Office until retirement.

The Morrison's have four children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Rev. Morrison, and Mildred are active members in their church. They also enjoy family gatherings where many happy memories are being made.

Love of God, and each other has given them many happy moments to share with their friends and family.

Rev. Morrison and Mildred have a verse that seems to sum up their life at this time, Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.

One Happiness In Life

A brunch was held on April 6th to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Louis and Lily Ramos. They were married in Oxnard, California on April 17th, 1948 at the Santa Clara Catholic Church.

Louis and Lilly are lifetime residents of Ventura County. They currently live in Oxnard, where they raised their four children, Georgia, Jacki, Curtis, and Steve.

Louis and Lilly have enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow, and now enjoy playing with their great-grandchildren in the California sunshine.

Afternoon walks and gardening are Louis and Lilly favorite pass times. They also enjoy going to the movies, and other activities with friends and family.

The Ramos have a favorite saying. There is only one happiness in life it is to love and to be loved.

Lois and Lilly's devotion, and love for each other set a good example for everyone to follow.

Grestest Birthday Gift Ever

Three celebrations in one, Pat and Monty Walters celebrated their birthdays and 60th anniversary on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008.

Pat thinks when you keep the anniversary, and birthdays together it isn't so easy to forget them. Smart reasoning, this way one gift does it all. Mr. Walters Pat’s birthday is Jan. 23; Monty’s is Jan. 24; and their 60th wedding anniversary is Jan. 25. Monty's said "that her husband Pat was the greatest gift ever."

Family and friends were invited to an open house from at the Danville United Church of Christ.

Monty Walters and Patricia Quigley were married Jan. 25, 1948, at St. James Church by the Rev. Jordan.

Pat is retired from Illinois Bell Telephone, and Monty was a homemaker and a stay at home mom raising their three children.

The Walter's treasure time spent visiting with family, and friends.

The Walter's have three sons, Terry (Sheila) Walters of Champaign, Monty Lee (Lizz) Walters of Ashland, Ore., and Patrick Walters of Danville.

They also have six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Crockett's Celebrate Golden Anniversary

Friends and family joined John and Marie Crockett, of Kennewick in a festive gathering celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 20.

The Crockett's were married Dec. 20, 1957, in Montesano, Calif. They have lived with their family in the Tri-City area for 33 years.

Both John and Marie served in the Navy; Marie for 2 years, John served for 22 years.

Marie is a housewife, and was a stay at home mom caring for their children. She has been a member of the Emblem Club for 25 years and is a past president of the Washington State Emblem Club.

After John retired from the Navy he worked for Westinghouse for 14 years retiring in 1993.

The Crockett's are active in their community. They enjoy the time spent with friends and family.

The Crockett children are Robert of Moses Lake, Michael of West Richland and David of West Richland. They also have four grandchildren.

Roses For The Bride

The children of Vernon and Glophia Fuller, Parnell honored their parents with a celebration, which would renew their vows at the East Belmont Baptist Church. Afterward a reception was hosted by their children. The couple first said their vows in the East Belmont church on April 19, 1958.

The Parnell's have four children, Karen Carroll, Terry Parnell, Donna Evans and Gary Parnell. They also have nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren

Vernon was employed as a carpenter for more than 40 years; he still enjoys woodworking and gardening. Glophia has been homemaker raising their children and baking for the neighborhood children, she still enjoys baking cakes for others. She is a lifetime member of East Belmont Baptist Church.

Vernon and Glophia enjoy working in their beautiful rose garden and visiting with friends, and family.

Under The Autumm Sun

Lester and Lillian Thompson were married September 29th 1937, in Clarksville, Texas.

An Open house was held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Lester, and Lillian at their home in Kennewick, friends and family were in attendance.

During World War11 the Thompson's were in the lumber business. After the war the couple owned farms in Arizona, Idaho and Washington. Lillian was a housewife and mother raising their three children,and helping Lester on the farms.

The Thompson's three children are Phil Thompson of Kennewick, Nick Thompson of Pasco, and Sherry Armstrong of Kennewick.

The couple enjoys hearing about the adventures their 13 grandchildren have.

Memorable Moments After 70 Years

Seventy years have passed sense Milton Branch Jr. took Bernice to be his bride. They celebrated their anniversary with a dinner given in Halethorpe MD. by family and friends.

Looking back over the last 70 years the couple said, "When we got married it was for life." Milton and Bernice admit that it has not always been a cakewalk, but they stayed together and worked things out. Just walking away is the simple thing to do.

When the Branch family totaling 41 get together they have a full house. These are the memorable times in life for Milton, and Bernice.

The couple has three children, grandparents of nine, great-grandparents of 18 and great-great grandparents of nine.

Number 13 Lucky For Couple

Thirteen is Emerald's Nelson's lucky number so it is no coincidence the couple married September 13th, 1947.

With a smile on her face Lois will tell you she has a real jewel for a husband in Emerald.

The Nelson new one another long before they were married, but they never dated until Lois and Emerald were at the same dance one evening and she ask him to dance.

Emerald is a good dancer and would still be dancing at 91 with Lois, but he just gets too tired.

Faith helped us to weather bad times. The Nelson's remember that some of the happiest times in their marriage were spent with their children camping, and going to the drive-in.

Emerald and Lois have lived in the same home for more then 50 years. Love of family is evident upon entering this home there are photographs lining the hallway of both children, and grandchildren.

Emerald was in the Army in World War 11 and is a retired electrician of 40 years. Lois worked in the American Arms factory during the war, later becoming a housewife and mother.

From Snow To Sunshine

Val and Dorothy Duszynski of Safety Harbor celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary April 17.

The Duszynskis first celebrated in April, with a party in Florida. They will also celebrate again in June with family from California, New York and Indiana.

The Duszynskis were married April 17, 1948, at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Buffalo, N.Y.

After retirement in 1984, Val and Dorothy came to Florida for the sunshine, escaping the snow in Syracuse. N.Y.

They are members of All Saints Catholic Church in Clearwater, and both belong to the American Legion, and Loyal Order of Moose.

Val and Dorothy enjoy going with the Hard Rock Casino with friends, and taking day trips with the Briar Creek Clubhouse.

The Duszynskis have two children, Diane Bratt of Los Alamos, Calif., and Paul Duszynski of Syracuse; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Mass Celebrated 60 Years Together

Albert and Margaret Albertini, of Moundsville formerly of McDonald, Pa. celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary thursday, April 24.

The Albertini's were united in marriage April 24, 1948 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, in McDonald Pa..

Margaret is a housewife, and mother that has stayed active over the years with her church, and club work.

Albert is retired from the former Mountaineer Carbon Co. he now finds himself active with church repairs, and club functions.


The Albertini's are the parents of six daughters, 23 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

A special Mass was enjoyed by family, and friends to honored the Albertini's, a dinner was also held in honor of their 60 Years together family.

Vietnamese Wedding

Harry and Kim Hoa, Tran celebrated their 50th anniversary in Greencastle, on Jan. 15.

The Tran's were married Jan. 15, 1958 in Saigon, South Vietnam. After 22 years they decided to move to Indiana. July 16th 1980 the Tran's started a new life, a world away from their friends, and family.

The Tran's have learned to love their community over the past 28 years. The couple are never lonely their family includes six sons, and four daughters. They also have 12 grandsons, six granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

Kiss And Make Up

The Milford's Frank, and Anita met at a YMCA dance in Plymouth, Devon, and were married two years later in the Torpoint Register Office on May 26, 1928. The couple celebrated their 78th wedding anniversary with family, and friends.

Frank, is a 98- year- old retired dockworker. The couple attributes their 78 years of marriage to never staying angry with each other." We don't always see eye-to-eye and have a small argument every day, it comes and goes. We have always been here for one another," said Frank.

Anita, 97, added: "there's every chance we could break the British record, these days marriages don't last long, and we can't understand that."
