65 Wonderful Years Together

Robert and Dolores Rohler were married on a lovely spring day June 6, 1943, In Dayton Indiana at the Presbyterian Church.

Dolores retired after working in finance for 34 years.

Robert retired after 38 years with a life insurance firm.

Robert and Dolores share memories and hardships that all couples living through World War 11 have. The Rohler's feel grateful that they survived the hard times and were blessed with good memories that came after of the war.

The Rohler's daughter Becky and her husband Rev. Gary Larmimer held a celebration in honor of her parent's 65th anniversary.

Friends and relatives throughout the evenings event shared keepsakes, photos and memories.

Where Have 60 years Gone

John Schafer thinks that his wife Ruth is just as beautiful today as the day he married her 60 years ago June 18, 1948.

Times were hard after World War 11 and folks spent their days just trying to make a living. With raising three children and working to see that their needs were met the years just passed the Schafer's by.

The Schafer's feel they have lived a blessed life together over the past 60 years, which has included their 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A celebration was held June7, to honor John and Ruth's 60th anniversary at the First State Bank in Clay City, friends and family were in attendance.

Memories and photos of the past 60 years were shared with everyone.

War Bride

Families in St. Louis like most cities in 1944 had hundreds of their young men caught up in World War 11. With so little to celebrate at this time the joy of a wedding celebration brought new hope into everyone's life. Mel and Ruth Erlinger were married June 24, 1944 in St. Paul's Evangelical Church in St. Louis.

Mr. Erlinger served in the U.S. Navy during World War 11. After the war the Elinger’s moved to Pinellas County. Before retiring Mel was a teacher in the school system, and served as a minister of visitation for the Cornerstone Church in Pinellas. Mel now stays busy as a freelance writer.

Ruth Also retired from Pinellas school system, as an award-winning teacher.

The Erlinger’s find that their lives are full and never a minute to spare with 2 sons, 3 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.

Friends and family honoring the Erlinger’s 64 anniversary held a celebration June 24, 2008.

Lots Of Humor

Fayette Tenn. in the spring is like heaven on earth according to Vestal and Emma Stinson. "In the spring everything is coming to life the mountains and valleys are doted with every conceivable color," according to the Stinson's.

Vestal and Emma were married on one of the beautiful spring days June 8,1941, in Fayette Tenn.

Vestal served in the U.S. Navy during World War 11, he was in the invasion of Normandy.

Vestal worked as a journeyman ironworker for 50 years, and business manager for the union, and coordinator for Iron Workers Local 22.

Emma worked in the factories making supplies for the soldiers during the war; later after moving to Indianapolis she was the director for Riley Park, she also raised seven children.

The Stinson's are the proud and busy grandparents of 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- grandchild.

The couple moved to Morgan County eleven years ago, where they have become very active in their community.

When ask why they think their marriage has lasted so long the answer was,"due to the hard work of raising seven children, during hard times, and good, also having a good sense of humor helps."

The Stinson's children held a celebration on June 8,2008 for their parents 67th anniversary. Friends and family were invited to bring pictures and stories from the past 67 years a wonderful fun filled evening was enjoyed by all.

Spring 1948

May 14, 1948, shortly after World War 11 Robert and Carol Weatherington were married in Columbus Ohio.

The Weatherington's have lived and raised their children in Mulberry.

Robert and Carol have two children, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A 60th anniversary celebration was held at the Brandon Elks Lodge, where photos from the past as well as memories were shared by 100 guests.

Robert and Carol enjoy spending time with family, and gatherings at the Elks Lodge.

Both Robert and Carol are very active in their Lodge with all activities, including the breakfasts. The couple became octogenarians this year.

Blue Ridge Mountain Bride

June 1958 the Blue Ridge Mountains were covered with flowers and tees in full bloom. The wonderful spring aroma filled the air as Freida Henthorn, became Mrs. Jim Wood June 14, 1958.

Jim worked for many years a homebuilder, owning his own business for more then 17 years before retiring. Jim is on the Board of Directors of the Roane County Farm Bureau.

Freida retired after 18 years with the Peoples Bank of Belpre, she is also a member of the Roane County Farm Bureau.

The Woods have three sons, and nine grandchildren.

A celebration honoring the Woods 50 anniversary was given by their children June 15 at the Heritage Park in Spencer. Family and friends were in attendance honoring the couple with memories, cards, and photos.

High School Romance

Arnold and Muriel meet and dated while in high school. Upon graduation Arnie joined the Navy this was a short time after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Muriel entered college to become a nurse.

While Arnie was home on leave in June of 1943 the Coles were married.

Arnie was wounded on Iwo Jima, he was hospitalized in San Diego for two years, and was later decorated for his service.

The Cole's moved to Phoenix in 1944 they have lived in the same home for 55 years.

Arnie and Muriel still work full time in their business Arnie's Health Foods.

The Cole children honored their parents with a 65 - anniversary celebration June 8, 2008 family and friends were in attendance.

Arnie and Muriel are the proud parents and grandparents of three children, seven grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Tiger & Elin Woods Anniversary

Tiger and Elin's wedding was held on the 19th hole of the Sandy Lane Golf Resort in Barbados on October 5,2004. There were 150 guest in attendance, which included Bill Gates,and Oprah Winfrey.

The Resort was rented for the week which included 110 rooms, and three golf courses.

Tiger and Elin met in England at the Royal Open, at the Royal Lytham. Elin was an au pair for a Swedish golfer.

Tiger proposed to Elin in South Africa on November 25,2003 while they were on a safari vacation.

The couple spent their two-week honeymoon on a yacht named Privacy. They now own their own yacht named Privacy.

When ask if his marriage had changed his life Tiger replied, "I have balance in my life, Elin just makes life better in every way she is just like me very competitive, and feisty."

Tiger and Elin have a daughter Sam Alexis born, 2007.

Family Cruise for 61 Anniversary

Harold and Phyllis Gaide will celebrate their 61th anniversary with friends and family June 28, 2008.

As a gift for their anniversary the whole family took a cruise earlier in the spring.

The Gaides were married June 28, 1947, in Detroit and lived in Southfield Michigan until 1989, when they moved to St. Petersburg Fl.

Phyllis was a singer with the Michigan Opera Co. after moving to Fl. she taught voice at St. Petersburg College.

Harold was a World War 11 Navy veteran, and retired from the Detroit Police Department.

The Gaide's have three children, and three grandchildren.

Alan Alda's 50th Anniversary

Allen Alda and wife Arlene celebrated their 50 anniversary in 2008. When ask why he thought their marriage had lasted for fifty years he answered" Spite and Malice- the card game, we play every day and by the end of the game we have been cursing and laughing and forget everything else."

Alan was known as Hawkeye Pierce in the TV series M*A*S*H*, which holds the record for being the most watched TV broadcast ever, he has also acted in numerous films. Alda is also a noted author.

Arlene is a well- known children's author, and photographer. Before marrying Alan in 1957 Arlene was an accomplished clarinetist playing for the Huston Symphony.

The Alda's have three children Eve, Elizabeth, and Beatrice.

Tim Russert's 25 Anniversary

Tim Russert's Meet the Press was a Sunday morning must for most households in the U.S

Tim and his wife Maureen Orth meet at a 1976 Democratic National Convention, they were married in 1983. The Russert's have been married for 25 years.

Maureen Orth has been a special Correspondent for Vanity Fair since 1993.

The Russert's have one son named Luke. Luke like his father is in the broadcast field
with a radio show on XM 60/20 Sports.

Russert made a promise to God that if he let his son come into the world healthy he would never miss a Mass.

Tim and Maureen were active in the Catholic community, Tim worked with the street kids that had been affected by gun violence.

Tim gave credit for his career to one of his teachers, Sister Mary Lucille for appointing him editor of the schools news paper. According to Tim this appointment changed his direction in life.

Rock and Roll

William (Bud) Riley and Alice McPhearson met and dated during the era of Elvis, and Rock and Roll. The 1950-60s were a time in American history that is still alive and enjoyed by everyone in today's world. Bud and Alice feel lucky to have been a part of this era.

William (Bud) and Alice Riley will renew their wedding vows Jun 15, 2008 at the Cross Roads United Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall, family and friends are invited.

William and Alice Riley were married in Frankton, Indiana June 15, 1958 at the Frankton Christian Church.

The Riley's owned Wm. Riley Bldg. & Remolding Inc. for 30 years.

Bud and Alice have two children Sam, and Debra they also have two grandchildren Kris, and Felicia.

Bud and Alice along with the rest of their family took a trip to the Smoky Mountains to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

The couple has planned a second honeymoon touring the east coast after the anniversary celebration.

That's My Man

At the young age of 15 Gail Joelene Engelstad's was serving dinner at her church when she could not take her eyes off the young speaker for the evening. Gail turned to her friend Mable and said, "that's my man and I am going to get him."

A year later Gail was selling sodas at the fair when the young man Leonard McGill keep coming to her booth for sodas finally getting enough nerve to ask her out.

Gail's parents were not going to allow this after all they did not know his family.

Knowing that Gail's parents would not allow them to marry the couple eloped to Iowa, and married April 26,1938.

Leonard was a Boy Scout leader in 1953 when his troop took a trip from Minnesota, to Yuba City California where he fell in love with the area. Within a short time he transferred to the Larro Feed Company in Yuba City.

The McGill's have one son, and five girls, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Leonard and Gail celebrated their 70th anniversary with family and friends on April 26, at the Hilltop Commons in Grass Valley.

Ohio River Valley In Spring

The Ohio River valley was in full bloom on May 31, 1958 when Waid Foster and Shelba Hill became husband and wife. The double ring ceremony was held at the home of Shelba's parents.

Waid retired from the united Parcel Service.

Waid and Shelba have three children Cheryl, John, and Eric, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

The Foster's live in Marietta where their children held a celebration for their 50th anniversary. The celebration on May 25, which included friends and family, was held at the Marietta Moose Lodge.

Adena Native American

Spring of 1958 Joe Sliva ask Deanna Miller to be his wife. April 19, 50 years ago the couple were married in the chapel on the Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene Texas

Joe Sliva, a descendant if the Adena Native American tribe that were found to live in the Ohio River Valley. Joe served in the Air Force 96th Bomb Wing for four years.

After leaving the service Joe worked for the Atlas F missile sites in Texas, he also taught courses for 15 years, and worked for Met Life until retirement.

Joe and Deanna and their three children, and seven grandchildren live in Texas. The Sliva's enjoy spending time with their family, and are very active in their community.

Tim Mc Graw and Faith HIll 12 Anniversary

Tim McGraw had known Faith Hill for a short time when he proposed to her. Tim was asking Faith to marry him just as he was called on stage, not having enough time to hear her answer. Before Faith went on stage herself she wrote her answer on his dressing room mirror.

The McGraw's were married October 6, 1996 in a simple ceremony with a reception following at Tim's aunt's home. Friends and family were in attendance watching as the couple said their vows. Faith wore a stunning designer gown there was only one thing missing her shoes, the bride was barefoot.

Tim and Faith live on a farm in Willimson County, Tennessee with their three daughters Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey.

The whole family travels together on tours when their children are not in school.

Faith said, "marriage is a work in progress you can not sit back and expect everything to flow smoothly, there are always bumps in the road. The couple respect what they have together and understand that a relationship has to be cultivated.

Aaron and Candy Spelling 38 Anniversary

Aaron met Candy in Los Angeles at a club when she was 18. They danced their first dance to "My Funny Valentine" which has been their song throughout their marriage.

The first time Aaron, proposed to Candy her parents made her return the ring. Aaron and Candy were attending a baseball game the second time he proposed, but having cold feet Aaron let the marriage license expire.

Angry at Aaron, Candy moved to New York to work as a model. Within a few weeks Aaron could not stand the separation any longer so he proposed yet again. Within six weeks of Candy's move to New York the couple were married.

Aaron and Candy were married November 23,1968 in Candy's parents home. The song "My Funny Valentine" was playing and after the ceremony Aaron and Candy dance to their song.

Aaron and Candy have two children Victoria "Tori", and Randall "Randy" Spelling.

Aaron Spelling, died on June 23, 2006 the couple would have been married for 38 years on November 23.

Bill Cosby 44th Anniversary

Bill Cosby well known actor married Camille Olivia Hanks January 25, 1964.

Camille has a biological lineage to Abraham Lincoln through his mother Nancy Hanks.

Bill Cosby has earned awards such as the Grammy, Peoples Choice, Golden Globe, and Emmy's. He also is very active in helping to further the education of young African Americans.

Camille earned a PhD from the University of Massachusetts in 1992.

The couple is very active in charity work giving millions to those less fortunate then themselves.

Bill and Camille have five children Erika, Erinn, Evin,and Ennis (deceased).

Jim Mckay's 60th Wedding Anniversary

Jim McKay, born James Kenneth McManus the world famous sports broadcaster passed on June 7th, 2008, Jim was 86.

Jim married Margaret Dempsey in October 1948. The McKay's would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.

Jim and Margaret have two children Mary Edwina, and Sean Joseph.

Arthur Godfrey a good friend of Jim's once told him to talk to one camera, and one person while on the air. The person that Jim picked was the love of his life Margaret.

Jim McKay served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46; he was a reporter, and sports commenter, for CBS-TV until 1960. He was the commentator for Wide World of Sports from 1960-80.

Jim will be remembered for his coverage of the Olympic games in 1972, he also received thirteen Emmy Awards.

Sweet Sixteen

Gerald and Rachel Bode Celebrated their 70th anniversary on May 18,2008 with friends and family, they shared memories, and photos with everyone.

As children the couple went to school together in Nebraska. At 16 while in high school Rachel married Gerald on May18, 1938.

Gerald was drafted into the U.S. Army when he was 26. The couple had four small children at the time Gerald served in Germany.

The couple moved to California in 1954, where Gerald worked as a mechanic for more then 30 years. Rachel was a housewife and mother.

They have traveled to England, France, Mexico, and cruised to Alaska as well as traveling across the U.S.

Gerald now 90 and Rachel 86 live in Camarillo close to their 9 children, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. They enjoy activities with their family and projects within their community.

Hawaiian Cruise

On June 7, 1958 Elvin Wilmot, and La Verne Coogle were married at the Fowler Wesleyan Church.

The Wilmot's were teachers for more then 35 years before retiring from Taylor Elementary. Elvin is also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Elvin and La Verne make their home in Sharpsville.

The Wilmot's have three children David, Cynthia, and Michael; they also have four, grandchildren.

In celebration of their parent's upcoming 50th anniversary, the children, and grandchildren surprised Elvin and La Verne with a Hawaiian cruise for the whole family.

John McCain 28th Anniversary

Cindy was seventeen years John's junior when they meet in 1979, at a military reception in Honolulu. John could not take his eyes off this beautiful, charming,intelligent woman the whole evening. Cindy admits that he monopolized her attention that evening.

After the party John ask Cindy to go for a drink, that was the night John fell in love.

John and Cindy were married in Phoenix, Arizona in a formal ceremony on May17th, 1980.

Cindy and John have three children, Meghan, John, James and one adopted child Bridget.

John was married to Carol Sheep on July 3rd,1965 they were divorced in April of 1980. Carol and John had three children,Doug and Andrew adopted by John,and Sidney Ann born 1966.

Joe Biden Loves Deeply

Jill was introduced to Joe by his brother while she was in College. The next day Joe called to ask her out, Jill already had a date but when Joe explained that he was only in town for one night she accepted.

Joe had been married to Neilia Hunter in 1966, Neilia died in a car crash in December of 1972. Joe and Neilia had been college sweethearts.

Jill knew how deeply Joe had loved Neilia; therefore she thought if he could love that deeply once he could do it again.

Two years after Joe, and Jill meet they were married in New York City in the United Nations chapel on June 17, 1977. Only family and close friends were in attendance.

Joe, and Jill have three children together, and five grandchildren.

Joe Biden is a Senator, and Jill is an English professor.

Mike Huckabee's Anniversary

Mike Huckabee turned down an invitation to Senator John McCain's home in Arizona so that he could celebrate his 34th anniversary with his wife Janet.

When Mike ask Janet to marry him he could not afford a ring so he placed a pull-tab from a soda can on her finger.

The Huckabee's were married in Janet's mother's living room on May 25,1974 in Hope, Arkansas.

When Janet was just twenty she was diagnosed with cancer of the spine. The Huckabee's were told if Janet lived she might be paralyzed,they were also told that they would not have children. Well as we all can see this did not happen. Mike thanks God every day for Janet's health.

Mike, and Janet are grateful for their three wonderful children, John Mark, David, and Sarah.

Michelle Obama's Ring

After dating for a couple of years Michelle was tired of trying to convince Barack that marriage was not a thing of the past. Barack felt that the vows that couples made to each other meant nothing in today's world.

One evening in 1992, Barack ask Michelle out to dinner, while in the restaurant he started the same old conversation yet again. Michelle let him know that she had heard enough it was time for him to get serious about their relationship.

When their dessert arrived on Michelle's plate there was a box with an engagement ring inside.

Barack looked at her with a smile and said, " I guess this will shut you up."

Michelle said " I can not remember what the desert was because I was so embarrassed I was speechless."

Michelle, and Barack were married October 18,1992, they will celebrate their 16th anniversary in 2008.

Rare Find

Chris, and Pam Dunn celebrated their 25th anniversary, with friends and family on April 25, 2008.

Twenty-five years ago it was very rare for couples to meet on line and later marry.

Don Dunn remembers when his son Chris told him that he had meet the girl that he was going to marry on the computer. Don thought it was a joke.

After talking to each other for several months Chris booked a flight to New York so that he could meet Pam. One year after their meeting Pam, and Chris were married on April 23rd, 1983.

Chris said, "I found a girl that I feel in love with on the computer, and 25 years later I am still in love."

At the time Chris, and Pam meet each other on line it was almost unheard of. In 1982 there were few computers in homes so the idea of meeting a date on line was alien to most people.

Chris, and Pam appeared on Good Morning America, The Phil Donahue Show, and 20/20 in 1983, telling their story. The couple also appeared in numerous magazine, and newspaper articles.

When Chris's father was asked if he was surprised that the marriage had lasted 25 years his reply was " Obviously they are a good match, I guess it was fate.

Ted and Vicki Kennedy

Ted Kennedy and Victoria Anne Reggie's family had been friends for many years; Ted said that he could not remember the first time that he saw her.

The couple was married on July 3rd, 1992 in Ted's home with a small group of friends and family in attendance. The newlyweds honeymooned in Vermont.

A poem by William Wordsworth "Daffodils" was the inspiration for a painting that Ted painted for Vicki as a wedding gift. While reading the poem to Vicki, Ted could see how she loved the words in the last two lines this gave him the idea for the painting.

Vicki's favorite line is so romantic she loves to share it with others. " And then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils."

Ted has three children Kara, Edward, and Patrick. Vicki has two children Curran, Caroline.
